Selin Resinos - Honduras

Finca La Guadalupe was founded over 80 years ago by Don Celin Recinos Sr. Today, La Guadalupe is still a family affair, Selin Recinos Jr. runs the farm as a small-plot wonderland of Catuai, Pacas, Parainema, Maragogype, Bourbon, and Typica varietals.

Selin Jr. has a holistic view of how to run his farm, focusing on reforestation with native species and preservation of existing forest and water sources. Selin’s care extends beyond planting just coffee, but shade and fruit trees all over his farm and home that provide food and refuge for the birds and wildlife native to the area. For the past years, the focus has expanded to include the continuous improvement of picking practices and wet milling on-location. Selin, as part of a 400+ organic farmers cooperative, also participates in many educational programs regarding organic farming practices and is an important voice to promote these practices in the local producer community.

Maragogype is a mutation of Typica coffee and was discovered in Brazil. The Maragogype is a large plant with big leaves, low production and very large fruits (and seeds / green beans). It has been called the “Elephant Bean coffee.” The mild cup characteristics and bean size were historically sought-after in Europe.
